Day 1600
Wednesday, December 25th
Merry Christmas! We got to sleep in until 8 am, pretty amazing since Santa comes during the night, which usually causes people to wake up early. Emma found her Christmas slippers that she made last year. Santa brought Lasse and Isaac cross country skiis, but there is no snow in sight so they will have to wait. Relaxing day.

Day 1599
Day 1597
Day 1596
Saturday, December 21st
With Alexander healthy again we finally got around to trying to do some Christmas shopping but we did not succeed. We were not alone, Alexander was clingy and Emma got sucked into a second hand store. Lasse dropped us off because there was no parking, he ended up parking over half a kilometer away. Lasse went food shopping and Alexander and I joined him for a while, and then we went to attempt to get Emma to stop trying on clothes but eventually gave up and went and had a cinnamon roll instead. We had a nice walk back to the car, along a long path that Alexander could run up and down on.

Day 1589
Saturday, December 14th
Alexander was fine in the morning and we asked Isaac to babysit him for a couple hours in the afternoon so we could buy a present for Emma's birthday (nothing like last minute). It was very hard for Isaac because Alexander was miserable - when we came home he had a fever and a headache and had missed Mommy very much. I'm blaming the approximately 150 people crammed into one room yesterday. Alexander has been healthy for a very long time.

Day 1588
Friday, December 13th
Lucia! Emma and her class sang in Akalla and later on in Old Town. Alexander's daycare had a very crowded Lucia. It started out with a daycare teacher carefully and clearly explaining that no one should take pictures or film until AFTER the children were done singing, since a group of 1-5 year olds suddenly faced with a sea of unfamiliar faces pointing cameras at them might not be so inclined to remember the 10 minute program of sweet songs they have been rehearsing for the last month. A bunch of people started taking pictures anyway, so the daycare teacher stopped the children and explained again about no pictures, but people still just held up their phones and cameras. Then a parent started shouting, "WHAT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!!? TURN OFF YOUR PHONES!!!" and finally people put their phones away. And the children sang. The younger children obviously had mixed feelings about the experience but the older (3+) children were having fun. They put all the children from the daycare (5 different groups) together so it was a lot of children and parents crammed into a small space. Here is Alexander standing in front of the daycare tree.

Day 1586
Wednesday, December 11th
No picture here either :-O. Seriously, the days fly by but I cannot remember them. Cannot remember what we did. Emma has been suddenly interested in doing school work this week which means that she has been up late, which means that I have been up late, and I cannot remember anything. I've been trying to sleep 90 minutes after Alexander goes to sleep and before Emma needs help in order to get in an REM cycle :-) Yawn. But it is great that Emma is getting in her school work before the end of the term! We are very happy about this. And Alexander has been cheerful and happy after daycare. Oodles of energy.

Day 1585
Tuesday, December 10th
No picture, borrowing from the future, from Thursday the 12th! After the snow melts there is lots of mud. Alexander said they had fun rolling in the mud. We had our after daycare fruit snack (banana today) on the bench in the dark and he wanted me to take a picture of me, not him.

Day 1584
Monday, December 9th
Hmm, no picture and no recollection of the day as I write this 6 days later. I think it snowed and when I picked up Alexander from daycare he was tired because he had spent both the morning and the afternoon sliding down the little hill they have in their yard.

Day 1583
Sunday, December 8th
We celebrated Emma's 16th Birthday a week early. Didn't manage to take more than two or three pictures, here is the best one. Emma was very tired after the week of three (actually four, the 9th grade class sang Lucia songs early on Saturday too) concerts. Alexander refused to get dressed beyond underwear and we decided not to care. We didn't make a cake this year, but bought a classic Swedish Birthday cake "Princess cake" which is layered white cake with jam, vanilla cream, whipped cream, and marzipan!

Day 1582
Saturday, December 7th
We had a baking day! Saffron rolls and chocolate/licorice muffins. We also made a chocolate/licorice cake to sell at Emma's concert to raise money for their trip to Italy later this year. Emma spent a few hours lovingly decorating this cake, using licorice flavored sprinkles! Alexander tried a muffin, liked it at first taste but not as the taste settled in.

Day 1581
Friday, December 6th
This is from Saturday, but I'm stealing it for today since I never took a Friday picture.
More number fun. I asked Alexander if we had six oranges and I had two, how many would he have? He said "four". He also figured out how many he had if I had three, one, or zero oranges. However, he did not want to do the calculation if I had MORE than him. When I said, "what if I have four, how many would you have?" I could tell he knew, but he answered, "I have ten!". Definitely one of my favorite things about being a mom has been getting to talk about/play with math. It was great fun with Isaac and Emma, and Alexander likes it too, so as Emma would say, Yay!

Day 1575
Saturday, November 30th
Alexander's last day for this fall of "singing, dancing, and painting" on Saturday mornings. We were allowed to observe (otherwise no parents allowed) what they have been up to. The children had been encouraged to help with the choreography so part of the dance was eating a lot, having a stomach ache, and going to "bajsa" (take a dump). It was beautiful but a bit odd.
