Lasse has been riding his bicycle to work some days. It only takes him 30-35 minutes, which is how long it takes by subway + bus. Alexander watched him take his bike out from the storage shed.

Day 745
August 25th
At 6 pm Alexander wanted to go out with his tricycle and I felt tired and wanted to say "no" but he was so happy and hopeful over this idea (he was out on the balcony and caught sight of his tricycle and dragged it into the living room while talking a mile a minute) so we went out. The timing was good; we could go meet Daddy at the subway station, which we did.
Waiting for the elevator.
We use a long stick to push the tricycle along if we are trying to go a little faster, otherwise it can take an hour to cover the distance between our house and the subway station (normally a 5 minute walk).
Look who we found!

Day 740
August 20th
It is soon time to find a new home for the knives; Alexander has figured out the locking mechanism for the child safe drawer. He hasn't managed to open it yet, but he is on his way.
We pretended it was Alexander's birthday today, since Lasse had been absent on the 11th. Alexander had a great time with a day filled with presents, yummy food, and his favorite people.
It rained and rained and rained all day. The light wasn't so great for pictures, but here we are eating crackers with tapenade and just hanging out.
Looking at a card
and at a fire engine.
Playing on the sofa with Alva.
Cake!

Day 739
August 19th
I made some carrot cakes (for Alexander's party and to take to work) which explains the massive bowl of grated carrots in the background. Alexander is helping wash the dishes. When I talked to him about the fact that he was going to have a party the next day he seemed to understand some things clearly; his cousins were coming, we would be eating rolls, and there would be balloons.

Day 737
August 17th
What a joy watching Alexander butter his bread. He was very concentrated and it went well at first,
but then the knife got turned upside down so the butter was up and no matter how much he swiped on the bread it wasn't getting buttered - very puzzling and he definately did not want help.
I told him that he needed to turn the knife and he struggled along and eventually got it.
Later in the evening he was very tired and cranky. He did NOT appreciate his bath.

Day 735
August 15th
At daycare they sang to Alexander and gave him these nice balloons. He seemed very proud about his moment in the sun. He walked around saying, "Hurrah!" (the Swedish version of Happy Birthday ends by shouting Hurrah four times).
Emma took some close-up pictures of Alexander today, including these two:
A favorite vehicle these days, a miniature digger, which follows along with Alexander most of the day. He slept with it one night, but it is hard and small and gets lost, so now he parks it on the night table. He has started sleeping with his soft blue elephant.

Day 731
August 11th
Happy Birthday, sweet darling boy!
We didn't celebrate Alexander's big day too much today, because Lasse is out of town. We will celebrate it later instead, and they will have some kind of celebration at his daycare next week. Alexander went to daycare today (and yesterday) for 2 hours. They are closed on Friday, and next week 5 new children are starting so it was good for him to have a chance to reacquaint himself before that chaos begins. It went as expected, he was sad to be left, but was soon having fun (I hung out and waited a couple of minutes to see) and he was happy when I picked him up and very talkative about what he had seen and done.
Emma spent the night at her grandparents, and Alexander, Isaac and I took the subway two stops and then walked home through the woods to the mall where we bought some strawberries and whipped cream.
Walked through a neighborhood we hadn't seen and ended up on a hill with lots of stairs down which Alexander thought were fun.
