Still sick, sad times continue; in the morning he was only happy when sitting on Mommy's lap.

Day 537
January 29th
Lasse turned 43 today! Opening presents and having breakfast in bed.
Alexander woke up and was not happy!
He had a fever of 105 (we gave him some medicine to bring it down).
Later in the afternoon, Alexander was bored but hardly had enough energy to stand up. I suggested he sit down, and he did, and he played in slow motion, sitting.

Isaac, Emma, and Lasse woke us up at 6:30 to celebrate Mommy turning 43.

Alexander wasn't feeling well and he stayed home from daycare. I made banana bread because we had an overripe banana that noone was going to eat, and Alexander played with these colorful cupcake forms.
He took a long nap and woke up feeling much worse, with a very high fever.
Was sick for the rest of the day :-(

I was making oven roasted potatoes and Alexander was interested in some cloves of garlic. He tasted one, but mostly just enjoyed carrying them around, rubbing them together in his hands like a worry stone.
Looking at the potatoes and checking to see if the oven door is hot, sometimes it is.

Doing some cooking. Alexander likes to pretend that he is cooking, drinking, and eating. We recently had our first tea party with teddy bears. We've temporarily removed the faucet since Alexander was trying to pull it off.

He is going to daycare from 9 am till 1 pm (or whenever he wakes up from his nap) this week.

Sunday morning. I made banana pancakes (again) and Emma painted Alexander's toenails. He sat very still and was happy with the result. First he went to show Isaac and Daddy, and then he walked around lifting his feet high with each step and looking down to see his toes.

Alexander was sick and cranky most of the day, but at least he didn't have a fever.
I had my book group friends over in the evening, and that cheered Alexander up; he loves having company and meeting new people. Lasse, another dad, plus 5 kids ages 11-15 went to see "Little Fockers".
Alexander enjoyed having some ice-cream,
going through the book shelves,
and playing with this Duplo sculpture made by Mommy's friend.

Alexander was OK at daycare, they said that when he was sad it was pretty easy to comfort him. However, when we got home, he was exhausted, coughing and soon running a fever! He also wanted to be very close to Mommy all evening.

Day 528
January 20th
I took Alexander to daycare, ate breakfast with him, sat with him while they had circle time, and then I went to their staff room. He cried when I left, but only for a minute (I could hear that he had stopped) and after about 5 minutes they came and said he was happy, so I went grocery shopping.
I also went by one of my favorite children's clothing stores where they were finally (I've been waiting) having their 70% off sale and I bought Alexander some new clothes.
I returned to the daycare at 12:30, while Alexander was napping, so that I would be there when he woke up. He was happy to see me. When we came home, he asked me to get down these paint buckets. I made banana pancakes while he played, which we had for a snack.
Then he asked me to get down his shoe house, and he sat and played very intently for about 10 minutes. Later, he was very, very tired, fell down several times, and didn't want to go to sleep. His brain is processing a lot of new input! He also had a very runny nose, all part of the experience.

Daycare again. My role today was to sit on a couch and be boring. Alexander played in the adjoining room and could see me. He kept checking to see if I was still there and came out to sit with me some, but that was boring, so he went back to play.
At home, we ate fresh pinapple. Alexander found it too intense, so he had a pear instead. The pinapple got stuck in Emma's teeth, and she wanted to floss, which Alexander found very funny.
He "asked" Emma to get out his toothbrush.

Some pictures of Alexander at daycare. They took some of the kids outside and left only a few inside, all part of letting the new children have a calmer start. Yesterday they were all inside because it was very icy outside and Lasse said it was chaotic.
New food. The mashed potatoes and corn were OK but Alexander didn't care for their meatballs.

Alexander had his first day at daycare today, he was there with Lasse from 8 am - 2 pm. He will be there with me tomorrow and Wednesday and then be without us on Thursday... but I will be at home so I can come if he is too sad.

Alexander had fun helping Mommy wash dishes.

We had dinner at Farmor and farfar's house. Alexander ate some nice food,
played with Isaac on a spinning chair,
checked out the computer,
played with the table hockey,
but most fun was had taking the cover in the microwave oven in and out over and over and over again!

Day 521
January 13th
Alexander got a stove/sink from Farmor and Farfar for Christmas, but we didn't assemble it until today because there was a part that needed to be replaced. We screwed it together in the living room and that is where Alexander thinks it should stand. When we moved it to the hall, he got very upset and pushed it back. When we put it to the side of the living room, same thing!

Day 520
January 12th
We went to the play school today (the one we have gone to since fall of 2009) and I took some pictures. They just re-opened this week after the holidays, so Alexander hadn't been there in over three weeks, and he was very happy to be there.
When we left home I mentioned we were going to the place with the blue rocking horse, and as soon as we arrived he went straight to the back room and jumped on.

Tasting it. They make it themselves, so it isn't toxic, but very salty!
